Using Bamboo Shades To Add To Your Home
Spring and summer are traditionally the times our spirits soar. But the same sun that allows us to comfortably enjoy outdoor activities can make our homes unbearably hot. Bamboo shades allowing us to moderate the sun and keep our houses cooler. In the evenings, one removes the shades or simply rolls them up. Just as any other type of window shades they give us flexibility in dealing with the sun.
Cheaper than most metal or vinyl shades they are also usually much more reasonably priced. Unlike their vinyl and metal brethren, they do not have to be pre-cut for the window you want to use them on. It gives one greater flexibility when purchasing if it is not necessary to have the exact dimensions. If you find out the window is a different size than you thought it was they can still be used without attaching them to the window permanently.
An advantage to having shades that are not connected to the window frame is that they can be used vertically or horizontally and they can be interchanged between windows. If your house, apartment, or condominium has windows facing the morning, afternoon, and evening sun, the same shades can be moved from one room to the next. This allows one to save because one does not have to purchase separate shades for each and every window.
There are some situations wherein the shades are ideal. If there are rules about the kinds of window shades or shades that can be attached to the apartment, these shades can still be used. By removing and storing them when not needed, it provides the flexibility to use them at any time, as when guests arrive unexpectedly. If one lives in a place that is usually overcast and it suddenly becomes sunny, you are ready.
Blocking direct sunlight from coming into your home is insurance against damage to your possessions by the harmful rays of the sun. This is especially important for windows that face directly into the sun during the hottest portions of the day. They are not complicated, easy to move around, and actually add character to the look of a house by adding a slight Oriental touch.
Because bamboo grows naturally in a forest they have a natural protection against the ultraviolet rays of the sun. This is not to say that the sun has no effect only that they are resistant and will last a long time. I simply cleaning them and storing them in a cool dark place it can be used year after year.
They are also a green resource. They are ecological because they are also from a renewable source. As they are a natural fiber, when one is finished with them they can usually be composted either in the city or in your own backyard. For those who are into gardening the shades can also be disassembled and the individual bamboo pieces can be used in the garden as stakes.
All in all bamboo shades make a very exciting and smart addition to a home, apartment, or condominium. Even if your home has central air conditioning the shades can certainly take a bite out of the monthly electric bill. By manually controlling the amount of sunlight to come through windows into your house and taking a little time to adjust them, you can reduce the amount of energy required to keep your home comfortable year-round.
