Roller Shades – Which Ones Are Right For You?

Roller shades can be extremely useful in a variety of ways in the home. Not only can you block out that annoying sunlight with ease, but you can also use them to upgrade the appearance of any room in your home by adding some contrasting color as well. You are sure to be pleased with the new look you create with a brand new set of shades. In reality, most people do buy shades for appearance purposes only as compared to their practical use.

There are many options to choose from whenever you start picking out shades. There is a huge list of options you can look at, depending on your own personal preference. Below you will find a few things you might want to look at during your decision making process.

The first thing that will probably peak your interest are the designs themselves. There is a large selection of designs you can choose from so this part can sometimes be the hardest to make a decision on. This part of the shopping process is based solely on what kind of taste you have because you will be the one that has to look at them all the time. You should quickly notice that with the many choices available only two or three rank at the top of the list as the most popular among consumers.

You will also probably want to look at not only design but the different types available as well. Two of the more popular ones are Sheer and Roman shades. Roman shades look just like the typical horizontal blind except they have wider slats. The look pretty heavy when hung and quickly add a unique appearance to any room they are in. Sheer window shades are just like sheer drapes with blind functionality built right in. These are more popular among consumers who only want partial blockage of light in a room.

Two other designs you will commonly find are Honeycomb and Pleated. Both of these are really popular too and work best when you want a certain amount of light to enter the area.

Among other things you will also want to take a look at the construction of the window shades. There are many things here to look at, like decorative hem, spring loaded, continuous cord loops, remote control and cassette head rail. You can usually find any or all of these options on just about any variety of shade you look at so sometimes budget is the deciding factor here.

Instead of new shades you might even want to go with shutters if you can’t find shades that keep enough light out they way you want them to. Shutters are a lot better at doing this than shades are actually. Even if you go with these you will still have a lot of things you need to look at before buying.

If you are like most people, though, and have a tight budget you might want to go with window shades for the best and cheapest option. Basically it is all up to you but there is no doubt you will find something, somewhere you really like.
