If your vane is damaged, you should change it. Replacing a vane is very simple and effortless. What you need to do is buy a replacement, then slide on the clip. There is no equipment required during the process. But if the clip are a bit loose, then you can use a screwdriver to press on it. When doing this you have to be gentle so as not to cause more damage.
If the vane (slat) is made of fabric, then you can use needle and thread to mend the torn part. If there is a tear near the hole where the slat is attached to the clip, the slat will fall down. To amend this, you will need to cut a small piece of the slat near the lower end of the slat and paste it with glue on the torn part.
Replacing the clips is also very simple. For most cases, you have to change the entire clip; however if only a portion of it is damaged, then you just have to replace that part. For the first step, you need to remove the old clip. This can be done very quickly. Now you just have to insert a new clip and ensure that when the slat is attached, it is all facing the same direction as the other slats.
There is one tough situation in which the header is damaged. If this happen, you should first check the warranty card to see if your vertical blinds are still warranted. If they are still under warranty then you are very lucky. The only part you can fix at home is the chain. If your chain malfunctions, you can replace it with a new one. But if other parts like the holder or the veins are damaged, you will need to call an expert to fix it.
