Installing Roller Shades In Six Easy Steps
The first thing you must figure out is the placement of your window shades. Will you be mounting them inside or the outside the window frame? When the former is decided, length and width measurements are vital. Be sure to write these down before your purchase. In order to ensure the best measurement, measure all around. Round to the smallest measurement when choosing window shades, because that will allow room for a shade to adjust easily.
Also be sure to know what the length of the longest part of the window is. Without accuracy within this measurement, your blind will not fit inside the window properly. When mounting upon the outside, measure from the starting point of the window shades and extend the measurement from one side to the other.
After you have purchased this shade, using the measurements from above, install the window brackets. These brackets should be included with the shade you have purchased. The position for mounting you have decided on will determine where you hang your brackets.
Outer and inner hangings both require you to check for obstacles your coverings may encounter as they are lifted and let back down. Sketch out where you want to place the fastening fixtures before you actually hang them. Align the fixtures and be certain they are level with each other. Leave 1/8″ from one fixture to the other. This lets the covering raise and lower with ease.
You can also mount your shade from the ceiling, if you so choose. This is another form of outside mounting. Once again, make sure the shade won’t run into any obstacles when it is raised or lowered. Arrange the mounting brackets so they are in line and level on the ceiling. Leave 1/8″ of extra space between the brackets.
Determine whether you have purchased a loop or a spring roller shade. For the continuous loop shade, the plastic inserts must be pressed onto the mounting brackets. Place this shade in the mounting bracket and then insert the round pin onto the plastic insert and mounting bracket.
Determine which type of shade you have purchased: a continuous loop or a spring roller. With a loop shade, push the inserts onto the mounting brackets. Insert your shade into the mounting bracket and then put the round pin onto the plastic insert and the bracket. If you chose a spring roller shade, insert this shade into the mounting brackets. Find the circular hole and insert the round end pin into it. Continue with the steps as mentioned above, inserting the end of the roller shade into the slot on the other mounting bracket.
Test your shade to make sure it is working easily. Spring roller shades will need the shade lowered about 16″ so the spring will tighten. Once you’ve done this, remove your shade from its brackets and roll it up. Insert the roller back into the mounting brackets and check the tightness once again. You must be careful not to apply too much tension on the roller, as that may damage it. If using a this shade, you may be able to take out the cover of the clutch to adjust the chain’s stop position.
