Fitting Wood Blinds
Wooden venetian blinds are a popular additon to any room. The wood gives a warm feel as it is a natural product.
Fitting your blinds can be difficult if you haven’t done it before. Fear not however, because we are here to help.
First of all open up the box to make sure the wooden blinds are okay – there is no point in even making a start if the blind has been crushed in transit. Next, clear the window. Don’t be foold that you can work around the priceless family heirloom. Then put the wooden venetian to the window to make sure your measuring is up to scratch.
Then make sure the fixing position is sound – you should really have done this when you measured so I’ll assume your wall / window frame is solid enough to take the weight of the blind.
Next, mark where you are going to fit the brackets, making sure they are level. Drilling the holes will really depend on what you are drilling into, but if you have tiles then I recommend you buy a special tile cutter drill bit. Also make sure the rawl plug goes all the way behind the tile. This is should stop the tile cracking as you tighten the screw.
Wooden venetin blind brackets are mostly a box type affair. There is a door that snaps into place once the blind is in place. They are very strong and offer various fixing positions.
Wooden venetain blinds come with a valance that cover the metal headrail and complete the look. This will either fix by velcro or plastic clips. The plastic clips offer a much more secure fixing, as the glue that holds the velcro can weaken over time. If you are lucky enough to have the clips, then you may need to fix them before you hang the blind.
Now you have the brackets fitted and the clips for the valance of you need them, then you simply slot the headrail into the brackets and snap the box bracket doors shut. The pelmet will hang from the velcro or the clips, whichever were supplied. Velcro can sometimes come loose, so our preferred choice and advice would be to go for the plastic clips as they are more secure.
Before you pack everything away, make sure the blind works okay. If it does, and all of the slats tilt then congratulations – you have finished.
