Cleaning The Roof With Oxygen Based Cleaning Products

Most of the things in our lives go unnoticed but are actually the most significant part. Have you ever observed the small parasites that feed on your roofs and weaken it? The slopes in your roof are deeply absorbed by these microbes. This is basically due to the absence of heat and sunlight in those areas. You must have observed but still not reached to certain preventive steps. The growth of such microbes indicates that your roof demands cleaning.

Sodium hydroxide is the chemical that is most often used for the removal of strong streaks and preventing the growth of moss and lichens. This method of roof cleaning is not very effective, instead very harmful for the planet as these release harmful fumes when inhaled by plants, animals and human, lead to death.

Another traditional method that is used to remove the exterior stains is pressure washer. They are fast and can easily reach inaccessible areas like pitched roofs or second floors. However, they can also erode sensitive wood shingles, wood decks or other exterior surfaces.

The only solution to free the roofs from microbial growth without harming the environment is to use the oxygen based bleaching products.

The solution basically comprises of sodium per carbonate and a solid form of hydrogen peroxide bonded with natural soda ash. The solution when mixed with water starts the cleansing action, thereby releasing oxygen that enhances the cleaning.

Unlike chlorine and sodium hydroxide bleach, these do not harm the nearby grass and plants. It does not sap the wood or other roofing material with its natural color. These keep the environment pure and safe. Being non- poisonous, these have no side effects on the man and animals as well.

One can maintain the roofs with the oxygen bleach by the following steps. To start with, clear away all the dirt and grin from the area. Dampen it with water. Prepare the cleansing solution by mixing 8 ounce of the oxygen bleach per gallon hot water. Allow 5 minutes for cleaner to dissolve and become ”cleaning active”. Apply solution with a mop or roller. A pump sprayer or a positive displacement applicator is good for applying solution.

Use a stiff bristle brush or broom to help to loosen organic matter from surface. Keep the solution on the surface as it is. After 20 to 30 minutes, wash off the cleanser. Applying the oxygen based cleaning products on the roof surface not only remove the mildew but also refrain them from appearing the next time.
